Harmony Korine's first new film since "Julien Donkey-Boy" (one of my personal favs) should be hitting theaters this spring. It is called "Mister Lonely", and in Korine's usual misfit-kitsch fetish fashion, it will tell a story of a lonely Michael Jackson impersonator who finds happiness in a European commune of American pop-culture impersonators.
Not surprisingly, a film featuring lookalikes of M.J., Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Charlie Chaplin, etc. is shaping up to be a big hit in the American pop-culture obsessed nation of Japan. So, it wasn't a surprise that I was able to find a copy of the trailer on a Japanese site for the film. Check it out HERE.
Surprisingly, the film has been receiving a warm reception at early screenings, and a lot of online critics (Korine fans or not) have been praising the film's humanism and originality. Oh yeah, and Werner Herzog is in it--isn't that justification enough to buy a ticket?

I read on the Spiritualized site awhile back that someone talked to Jason Pierce and he supposedly scored this movie, which is possible where the warm reception is coming from.
I heard that same rumor, but I haven't been able to confirm if it's true. If it is, it could be an interesting soundtrack.
I like the idea of popular musicians branching out into cinematic collaborations. Johnny Greenwood(Radiohead)'s score for "There Will Be Blood" is amazing, and KTL (with Stephen O'Malley from Sunn O))) recently did a soundtrack for Victor Sjostrom's 1920 silent film "The Phantom Carriage".

It is indeed scored by Jason Pierce and the Sun City Girls do some stuff to. There's a Spank Rock and A Silver Mt. Zion song in there among others.
